Hi, lovely reader!
If you’ve known me for any length of time, in person or online, then you’ll have heard me mention this mystical YA sci-fi fantasy series I’ve been working on since 2015.
While I’m still not in a position to share the details of the stories I’m working on, what I can tell you is that this book series has been bubbling away in the background like a kettle about to boil for eleven years. I’m as fed up as you are. But, these stories will include plenty of mystery, adventure, and worldbuilding of exciting scope – along with a neurodiverse protagonist supported by a diverse cast of characters. I’m also intending to create these books in a dyslexia-friendly format, so younger readers who find standard print books challenging can finally enjoy the same books as their friends.
Unfortunately, thanks to my perfectionist tendencies, I’ve ended up writing and re-writing this series so many times that I’ve put aside over 250,000+ words of completed novels and novellas that won’t reflect the final versions of these books.
Despite what could be perceived by some to be a monumental waste of time, I know that every moment spent working on these novels has actually helped me to develop as a writer. In fact, I recently concluded that the reason it has taken me soooo long to get this series done is because I wasn’t the calibre of writer needed to tackle such intricate storylines and complex character development. Until now.
Finally, given my new-found situation (check out Reeling from redundancy for more info. on that) and ability to dedicate myself to the improvement of my literary capabilities, I am working on an initial duology for my YA sci-fi fantasy series, alongside developing a few series-related novellas.
For now, I don’t have any spoilers or snippets to share with you (sorry!) – but please keep an eye on Dannika Writes…, because I’ll let you know as soon as this long-awaited accessible YA series is ready to share with the world 🙂
Thanks for your patience while I get this project up and running!
Best wishes,
Dannika <3
